1st International Conference on Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability

IEER UET organized the 1st International Conference on Environment, Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability on the 29th to 20th May 2025.  The conference was inaugurated by the Dean Civil Engineering department, Dr Khalid Farooq, and Director IEER, Dr Aamir Ikhlaq.

The conference themes were multi-faceted targeting key climate change areas that are faced by Pakistan. This included:

  • Air Pollution and Climate Change
  • Mitigation Technologies, i.e., Nanomaterial, conventional, and advanced, etc.
  • Sustainable Energy and Clean Technologies, i.e., biofuel, solar, EV, etc.
  • Water Resource Management and Conservation
  • Urban Sustainability and Green Infrastructure
  • Water and Wastewater Quality and Treatment
  • Circular Economy and Waste Management

The conference included plenary sessions with speakers from across the globe, which included Dr Fei Qi (Beijing Forestry University, China),  Dr. Khurram Saleem (International Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia),  and Col. Engr Mumtaz Hussain (The Environ Monitor Magazine). As well as local experts Dr Amer Aziz (City and Regional Planning, UET Lahore), Mr. Abid Omar (Pakistan Air Quality Initiative), Dr Zafar Iqbal (Environment Protection Department), Mr. Adeel Younis (WWF),  Ms. Anum Shahid (Urban Unit), Dr Imran Kalim (PCSIR), Dr M. Ali Falak (Department of Civil Engineering, UET Lahore), Ms. Asma Khalid (Product and Industrial Design, UET Lahore), Ms. Quratulain Ahmad (GCIS), and Ms. Huma Raza (US Denim).

The conference held engaging discussions on climate change crisis and solutions. Dr. Fei Qi presented his work on decarbonatization potential and greenhouse gas emissions from wastewater treatment plant. Dr. Khurram Saleem emphasized the development of zero carbon technologies such electric vehicles and battery optimization. Dr Amer Aziz discussed the role of city planning and urban development with respect to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The conference provided a dynamic platform for researchers, policymakers, and industry experts to collaborate on actionable strategies for a sustainable future.
